About Image Rotate & Flip
Correct the orientation of any image or mirror it for creative or technical purposes. Rotate clockwise or counter-clockwise by 90° increments, flip horizontally (mirror left-right), or flip vertically (upside down). Supports JPG, PNG, WebP, and BMP. All processing is done in your browser — nothing is uploaded.
Use Cases
Fixing upside-down phone photos, correcting sideways scanned documents, creating mirror-image effects, preparing images for printing with a correct orientation, flipping logos for watermarks or layered designs.
How It Works
Applies a CSS/canvas transform matrix to the image drawn on a canvas. For rotation, the canvas is resized to swap width and height, the context is translated and rotated, and the image is re-drawn. For flipping, ctx.scale(-1, 1) or ctx.scale(1, -1) is applied before drawing.
FAQs
Does rotation affect image quality?
Rotating by 90°, 180°, or 270° is lossless — no pixels are lost. The canvas re-draws the image at the same resolution. Re-saving as JPEG will apply compression, which is standard for that format.
Can I rotate by arbitrary angles like 45°?
Currently the tool supports 90° increments. Arbitrary rotation is not offered because it requires padding the image with background fill to avoid clipping the corners.
Why do phone photos sometimes appear rotated?
Phone cameras save photos in landscape orientation and store the rotation in EXIF metadata. Most browsers now respect EXIF orientation automatically.
