Online Hash Generator (SHA-256 / SHA-512 / SHA-1)
Generate SHA-256, SHA-512, and SHA-1 hashes from any text.
About Hash Generator
Generate cryptographic hashes from any text string using SHA-1, SHA-256, or SHA-512. Uses the browser's built-in Web Crypto API so no libraries are needed and nothing leaves your device. Output in hex or Base64 encoding.
Use Cases
Verifying file integrity checksums, hashing passwords during development, generating API signature values, creating content fingerprints, learning about cryptographic hashing.
How It Works
Calls the browser's native window.crypto.subtle.digest() with your chosen algorithm. The input string is encoded to UTF-8 bytes via TextEncoder, hashed, then formatted as a hex string.
FAQs
Why is MD5 not included?
MD5 is not supported by the Web Crypto API because it is cryptographically broken. SHA-256 is the modern standard for most use cases.
Are the same input always produce the same hash?
Yes. Hashing is deterministic — the same input always produces the same output hash.
Can I reverse a hash?
No. Cryptographic hashes are one-way functions. The hash cannot be reversed to recover the original input.
